At the heart of BSSF

Our Themes

01

social science of communities

A child learning right from wrong without being formally taught, a family receiving support without asking, skills passing across generations—this is the invisible work of communities, and we've forgotten to notice it.

Social Science reveals these bonds, ultimately strengthening our communities and building a confident nation.

02

social science of technology

A vaccine reaching a remote village because someone understood how villages work, a city not running dry because planners studied its forgotten lakes, a village adopting toilets because someone understood why open defecation made sense to them in the first place.

Technology solves problems, but only when we understand the people it serves.

03

social science of environment

Once, a painkiller given to cattle killed India's vultures (who fed on the cattle), and without vultures a rabies pandemic broke—half a million people died. When China killed its sparrows for eating their grain, locusts swarmed the farms—millions starved.

We cannot protect what we don't understand. Social science helps us connect the invisible dots.
